The amount of columns (individual languages) depends on how many langauges have been activated.
The window allows you to edit the names of places in the various languages.
Once this is done, these names will change along with he language, whenever the language is changed with the language button 
.
The change only needs to be done once, even if the name is present multiple times in the database.
Once 'Basel' has been set to 'Bâle' in French, all Basels will change to Bâles when the language is switched from German to French.
To look for a particular place you can enter the place name in the search bar in the top left-hand corner.
